First PGA tournament for TPC

The city started getting ready to host the first Greater Seattle Champions Classic, the newest addition to the PGA Champions’ tour, which was held at the Tournament Players Club on Snoqualmie Ridge from Aug. 15-21.

The city and police department teamed up to plan an event that would be safe, organized and fun. The event was the first tour competition at the Jack Nicklaus-designed TPC and benefits The Heart Institute at Virginia Mason Hospital. Corporate sponsors ponied up $2.5 million.

MSHS team named Kingco champs

The Mount Si High School Wildcat softball team opened postseason play in the Kingco tournament and scored a conference tournament championship. The team earned a conference tournament title against the Liberty Patriots. They also won their first district tournament against the Bellevue Wolverines. They were eliminated from the postseason competition after two losses against the Holy Names Cougars and the Sammamish Totems.

MSHS golfer takes second at state

Mount Si High School golfer Katie Somers earned a second-place showing at the two-day state 3A girls’ golf tournament with a 153 on the par 71 course.

Local student in coma after injuries

Mount Si High School freshman Caleb Williams was in a coma after hitting his head on rocks on June 20 at the Blue Hole, a popular swimming spot on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. Williams was in and out of a coma for seven weeks and was still dealing with after-effects in November, but was getting better each day.
