Seventeen Washington high school seniors, including Hailey Weed of North Bend, took part in the Aug. 1 Distinguished Young Women Washington scholarship program at Washington State University.

More than $10,000 in college scholarships were awarded at the state program, formerly known as the Washington Junior Miss pageant.

Weed was named a Distinguished Young Woman of North Bend.
