Aspiring young artists from across the state can benefit from a new partnership at Mount Si High School.

North Bend artist Richard Burhans is lending his expertise with pencil and brush to help with a student production by Mount Si teens aimed at creating a DVD series of art lessons.

A set of seven DVDs, or digital video discs, is being created with the support of the Snoqualmie Arts Commission.

The idea is to help all Washington state students, not only those in the Snoqualmie Valley, to understand basic art concepts, said Mount Si High School career educator Joe Dockery.

The DVD tutorial, tentatively titled “Talking in Pictures,” is being designed for students from kindergarten through high school, but adults could benefit, too.

Burhans already teaches art in local schools.

“But he thought if we could make a video of it, we could share it with a wider audience,” Dockery said.

When Burhans was first thinking about the idea, he figured there were already plenty of art lessons available in books and on tape.
