King County Libraries’ 2009 summer reading program, set for June 15 through Aug. 31, can help parents keep their children interested and busy, while sharpening reading skills.

This year’s program, “Be Creative @ Your Library,” rewards children for reading. Students who read 500 minutes receive a half-way prize, while students who read 1000 minutes receive the finisher prize and are eligible for the grand prize drawing of a laptop computer. Prizes are distributed beginning July 15. The grand prize winner is announced in September.

Teens can check out the summer edition of “Read Three, Get One Free.” Teens who read three books and write a review for each get a free book, and can earn prizes.
