SNOQUALMIE – The race to be the next Snoqualmie mayor already has a runner.

Snoqualmie City Councilman Matt Larson announced last week that he will be running for the position this fall. Larson is the first to announce his candidacy for the position that will be left vacant by current Snoqualmie Mayor Fuzzy Fletcher, who announced last week he would not run for office again. Fletcher’s term ends Dec. 31.

Larson, 43, is a home designer who lives in the city’s Snoqualmie Ridge neighborhood. He moved to the city in 1999 and served on both the parks board and Planning Commission before being elected to the City Council in 2001.

Larson said he has not finalized any platform or campaign issues and will be focusing on working to finish his term this year. Candidates for office are not required to file with the state until this summer.

This fall will be a big election year for the city. The mayor’s seat, as well as five of the seven council positions, will be up for election.
