SNOQUALMIE – The proposed Snoqualmie Community Center has found itself the latest casualty in a weak economy that has plagued fund-raising efforts across the nation.

Volunteers on the Snoqualmie Community Center Committee gave a report at the Monday, Aug. 26, City Council meeting that outlined how many donations the group had received.

The goal had been to raise $1.5 million toward the proposed $9.7 million community center. The committee hoped $750,000 of that would be in the bank by the time a $7 million bond levy was voted on in November.

But as the fund-raising campaign reached its halfway point in August, committee members said they had raised a little under $100,000. That caused them to lower the November goal to $500,000.

The City Council, in turn, introduced an ordinance that would increase the bond levy to $8.5 million to shoulder more of the cost of the community center.
