It was a typical rainy day in May as participants in the 2007 Snoqualmie Valley Crop Hunger Walk gathered at Snoqualmie United Methodist Church (SUMC) Sunday, May 20.

What was not so typical was that people from SUMC and St. Clare of Assisi Episcopal Church held their Sunday worship together, then set off to walk the course around Snoqualmie as part of an annual effort to raise both money for, and awareness of, the work of Church World Service and the Mount Si Helping Hand Food Bank.

This is the second year the two churches have co-hosted the event, which has been held in the Valley continuously since 2004.

Church World Service is a cooperative ministry of 35 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican denominations, providing sustainable self-help and development, disaster relief and refugee assistance in some 80 countries. Locally, the ministry is currently helping set up an interfaith organization to assist financially with long-term disaster recovery following possible future natural disasters in the Valley.
