Greenway readies youth activities

The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is teaming up with local youth to help maintain creeks and trails in the Valley.

The Greenway Trust’s summer events for teens include the Snoqualmie Valley Watershed Wardens program, taking place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15 to 17.

Participants will explore sites between North Bend and Snoqualmie, removing invasive weeds from the historic Tollgate and Meadowbrook Farms during the first two days.

Through Greenway efforts at these sites over several years, acres of invasive Himalayan blackberry have been removed to restore native plant and animal habitat that now support migrating elk herds.

Volunteers will also improve sections of trail while hiking on Rattlesnake Mountain on the third day.

Rattlesnake Mountain has had a major trail reconstruction project led by the Greenway Trust over the past five years. Summer youth volunteers will continue this commitment by doing trail maintenance work.
