Housing costs leave many out of the market

Letter to the Editor.

The article “Snoqualmie Ridge Phase II in the works” (Jan. 19, 2005) illustrates a major problem. “Fifteen percent of all units in SR II will be sold to people earning 80 percent below the median income …” What about affordable housing for the third of the population making less than this?

My experience at the food bank vividly illustrates the lack of affordable housing for low-income families. That is the main reason so many people have to rely on the food bank. Many of these people work full time and still have difficulty meeting their basic needs.
