Anyone interested in learning more about the Riverview School District’s PARADE (Parents and Riverview Actively Delivering Education) program is invited to the program open house 10 a.m. Wednesday April 13 in Carnation Elementary School, Room 141.

Staff members will give tours of classes, and then give a presentation on how the PARADE partnership works. Attendants will be able to ask questions and get information about how this unique program works. Registration information will also be available.

PARADE is an alternative learning program committed to creating a rich learning environment which encourages the development of strong academic and social skills. Typical K-8 class offerings include: theme-based history and literature; hands-on science; drama; leadership; math application and games; debate; creative writing; Spanish; art; nutrition; geography; engineering; PE; photography; textiles; desktop publishing; and yearbook.

The program was created to support families who want to home-educate their children, in collaboration with the school district. Within this program parents are the primary educators, teaching their child for a minimum of 20 hours a week. Students attend PARADE classes for one to one-and-a-half days a week.
