Give the gift of cats in trees for Christmas with North Bend calendar fundraiser

A year’s worth of cats rescued from trees might be the ideal gift for an animal lover on your list, and it’s easier to wrap than you might think. The Canopy Cat Rescue Calendar, a first-time fund-raiser for the North Bend and Olympia-based team of climbers, features 12 stranded cats and their rescue stories, plus other fun cat facts.

Climbers Shaun Sears of North Bend and Tom Otto of Olympia have rescued hundreds of cats, stuck in trees, on utility poles, and in other high places, for years.

They work for donations only.

“We don’t want to make money off other people’s misfortunes,” Sears explained.

They do take donations through their website, and sell Canopy Cat logo gear. All purchases, including the calendar sales, go to fund their work.

The 11-by-17-inch full-color calendars (pictured below) are $25 each, which includes shipping. Find the Canopy Cat Rescue Calendar on their website, www.canopycatrescue.com, or on Facebook.

Mouse, a Sammamish kitten, was exploring his first snow Nov. 29, when he was spooked up a tree, and got a paw pinched between branches. Canopy Cat came to the rescue, climbing up the tree carefully and freeing the trapped leg, then snuggling up to the shivering cat before bringing him back down to the ground and his relieved family.
