Gilbert Pettersen, first boy to score a touchdown for Mount Si, dies at 85

Gilbert Pettersen, 85, died November 29, 2013, at home in Deary, Idaho. He was born March 9, 1928, to William F. and L. Miriam Petterson at the Weyerhaeuser hospital in Snoqualmie Falls, Wash., the oldest of six children. Gilbert graduated from Mount Si High School in 1946, where he scored the first-ever touchdown for Mount Si in 1944. He graduated from the University of Redlands, at Redlands, Calif., in 1960. He became an insurance adjustor and eventually owned his own Farmer’s Insurance agency at Palm Desert, Calif.

Gilbert Pettersen, 85, died November 29, 2013, at home in Deary, Idaho.

He was born March 9, 1928, to William F. and L. Miriam Petterson at the Weyerhaeuser hospital in Snoqualmie Falls, Wash., the oldest of six children.

Gilbert graduated from Mount Si High School in 1946, where he scored the first-ever touchdown for Mount Si in 1944. He graduated from the University of Redlands, at Redlands, Calif., in 1960. He became an insurance adjustor and eventually owned his own Farmer’s Insurance agency at Palm Desert, Calif.

In 1968, he used his degree to become a teacher at the age of 40. He retired in 1988 from Banning Unified School District as a seventh grade science teacher. He moved to Deary in 2009.

Gilbert is survived by his daughter, Laura Pettersen-Denning, son-in-law John, grandson Kevin, two sisters, Barbara and Eleanor, and two brothers, Bill and Chuck.
