Four Mount Si High School seniors receive student of quarter honors

Mount Si High School seniors Alie Hall, Carolee McCarty, Olivia Ferreri and Zachary Miller were named students of the quarter by the Rotary Club of The Snoqualmie Valley.

Each quarter, the Rotary chooses four MSHS seniors, nominated by high school staff, who best exemplify the Rotary motto — “service above self.”

The students are judged on their leadership in and out of school, good citizenship, academic achievement and community service involvement. Learn more about the four nominees below:

Alie Hall (Nominated by Jill Waskom)

“Alie is the ASB Executive Board Secretary and President of the Gay-Straight Alliance Club. She has great vision, organizational skills and is a fantastic communicator. I am thrilled with her work ethic, her wealth of new ideas and ways of doing things.

Alie has a penchant for giving voice and representation to those who don’t always feel included or accepted by their peers. Alie wants to hear from everyone. She helped spearhead the all school student survey at the beginning of the year, providing opportunity for students to give feedback, and let teachers and admins know how we are doing. Alie then diligently went through results to create a summary of key points.”

As a student leader in our class she volunteers for our community service events frequently, such as Fill the Truck and the Giving Tree.”

Carolee McCarty (Nominated by Joe Dockery)

“As a member of our TV production class, Carolee is the only student who has produced multiple segments that have been featured on both our television show and on the district’s Facebook page. I have been most impressed with the leadership skills that she demonstrates. Her kindness and inclusive manner have developed a sense of community with all the students that she has involved in her productions. She is a strong storyteller whether it’s on film, graphic design or writing. Her book on Ethiopia is a shining example of her creativity. It required her to interview children from Ethiopia and work with local elementary school students to do the illustrations.

Carolee has worked hard to balance a part-time job at our local bakery, running a community filmmaking club, community service and a rigorous academic schedule. She has maintained a 3.85 GPA while challenging herself with multiple AP classes.”

Olivia Ferreri (Nominated by Jill Waskom)

“Olivia is our MSHS ASB Treasurer and her service and leadership is stellar. Olivia leads by example, demonstrating positivity, inclusiveness and encouragement to everyone she works with. In her role as treasurer, she works closely with our ASB Financial Secretary and helps them manage all our ASB financial transactions.

Olivia is an amazing human! Kind, compassionate and gracious to her core. Olivia truly cares about everyone and her desire to tackle and find solutions to big issues demonstrates the kind of citizen she is.

Olivia wants to be a doctor one day and loves to dance. She has planned multiple services events this year which have benefited our MSHS student body and the Snoqualmie Valley community. Olivia was the lead in organizing the Fill the Truck event benefiting local food banks. She also helped promote a pop-up event for Bloodworks NW at Snoqualmie City Hall”

Zachary Miller (Nominated by Joe Dockery)

“Zachary is one of those caring and committed students that make teaching such a pleasure. He is always full of great ideas and always the first to volunteer for a project.

During Zach’s freshman year, he spent his first semester working on our school play and then dove in Key Club. He was highly engaged in our planning for Bark of Life. He designed graphics for our digital displays, found the judges for our custom/trick contest and consistently added to our planning meetings. At the event he was actively engaged, serving as our liaison with the humane society. Zach works hard and has always earned A’s from me.

Out of school he volunteers as a foster brother for kittens. He is able to pour his love for animals into helping them become good house pets and help them find a loving home.”
