SNOQUALMIE – All the residents of a Snoqualmie home are safe after their house caught fire earlier this week.

The Snoqualmie Fire Department got a call at 9:30 p.m. on March 28 regarding a house fire at 8311 Peggy’s Place, located in the neighborhood behind the post office. Firefighters from Snoqualmie, Fall City, Eastside Fire and Rescue (EFR) and a medic from Bellevue responded to the blaze and were able put it out, only to have it flare up again due to high winds the following morning at 3 a.m.

Everyone inside the house was able to escape and nobody was injured, but an EFR firefighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution after being hit by a piece of ceiling that fell.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a cigarette butt thrown near a dog house that caught the ground on fire and then ignited the dog house. The flames reached up the side of the home and burned the house’s entrance and most of its roof.

Firefighters were able to cover some of the personal property inside the home but the damage to the structure and property is estimated to be about $270,000.
