North Bend’s yearly community event, the Festival at Mount Si, drew in both locals and regional visitors throughout the hot, sunny weekend.
Saturday began with the Kiddie Parade and Grand Parade along North Bend Way, giving Valley groups and organizations the opportunity to greet the crowd and perform for the parade judges. This year’s parade featured local organizations like Mount Si Gymnastics, Encompass and the Snoqualmie Valley Unicycle Club.
The parade was closed out with an appearance by the Seattle Seafair Pirates in a large pirate ship float equipped with a small, but very loud, cannon.
After the parade, the festival continued at Si View Park with food, field games, live performances and contests. Highlights included the cherry pie eating contest sponsored by Twede’s Cafe and the Amazing Pet Contest.
Perhaps the festival’s most unique event, the wife-carrying contest, was held on Sunday and drew a crowd watching couples participate in a multi-stage obstacle course, featuring a slip-and-slide to the finish. After the races, the course was opened up to anyone who wanted to run it, with or without a passenger.
