The nascent Fall City parks group is nearing the deadline on submitting a fall ballot measure that would make a new Valley park district official.

The last day to file a measure for the November ballot in King County is Tuesday, Aug. 12.

The Fall City Parks Action Committee intends to ask voters to approve the creation of the new district, to be funded by a tax of 9.7 cents per $1,000 in property values.

However, the group is navigating the review process with several King County agencies regarding the district’s creation, and requires the approval of the King County Council.

“It’s going to be a last minute thing, whether it happens or not,” parks group founder Perry Wilkins said.

A park district would aim to improve Fall City’s parks and add more park facilities for residents. According to Wilkins, the district would need a part-time maintenance person and a part-time administrator. Wilkins said one goal of the district is to seek grants to lower the tax burden on residents.
