Looking to improve the parks and playgrounds in their community, a group of Fall City residents are building support for a new Fall City Park District to take the place of King County.

The newly formed, nonprofit Friends of Fall City Parks will hold a study meeting on a new park district at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Fall City United Methodist Church, 4326 337th Pl. S.E., Fall City.

The meeting is being held to share progress, feedback and ideas about the formation of a park district with residents.

The Friends group is working on a petition that would ask voters in Fall City to approve formation of the district in the Nov. 2008 general election. A Fall City Park District would likely follow the Fall City fire district boundary, covering all of Fall City and most of the surrounding neighborhoods.

A parks district is being considered because Fall City’s needs aren’t being met, said Perry Wilkins, who started the study group with fellow Fall City resident Jack Kelley.

“I initially started it because I didn’t like the idea of King County giving our one and only park away,” Wilkins said Wednesday, Jan 2. “There’s a bunch of people that want more for the community than just that one park.”
