Thanks to a signature breakfast recipe, Rich Maki, owner of the Fall City Grill, got his 15 minutes of fame on a Seattle public television cooking show.

Maki whipped up some oatmeal blueberry pancakes for “KCTS Cooks: Breakfast,” a new special that premiered last Saturday, May 19, as part of the popular Channel 9 series. The show features volunteers who give live demonstrations of their favorite recipes with taped cooking segments of professional chefs from Northwest restaurants.

Maki has been a contributor to the “KCTS Cooks” recipe book for four years, after a regular diner at his grill wrote in, requesting Maki’s recipe for a baked halibut topped with creamed cheese, horseradish and shrimp.

“Since then, they’ve been contacting me every year, asking for a recipe or a contribution to the cookbook,” he said.

“I’d always been doing dinner entrees,” Maki said. For this year’s theme on the most important meal of the day, Maki submitted the signature pancakes, made with blueberries and brown sugar, popular at the Fall City Grill since he put them on the menu.
