EYN to host workshops for adults focusing on youth development

Empower Youth Network (EYN) is presenting a series of virtual workshops for adults focusing on healthy youth development.

EYN is a Snoqualmie Valley nonprofit that encourages youth to lead safe, healthy, and successful lives. These workshops are geared toward parents, guardians, educators and youth providers. More information can be found below.

Guiding Good Choices:

A free, 5-week course beginning Monday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m., for parents and guardians of students in grades 4-8.

This program teaches proven methods of increasing the communication in your family around important topics and making safe choices.

This course is presented by EYN’s Prevention Coordinator Sara Young. Young coordinates EYN’s Youth Suicide Prevention program and youth engagement in the Snoqualmie Valley and Riverview School Districts.

Inside Out: Trauma-responsive Care:

A free, 4-week course beginning Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m., designed for adults to learn about trauma, its impacts and healing through self-awareness, self-regulation and mindfulness.

The course is presented by Michelle John, EYN’s youth resilience and community resource coordinator. She is an equity-minded and trauma-informed leader from the Snoqualmie Valley with a social work background.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA):

A one-day workshop on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. YMHFA is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people.

The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development and teaches a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

This class is led by M’Liss Moon, Youth Resilience and Community Resources Coordinator at EYN, and Rachel Tomczek, a registered nurse and certificated school nurse with 21 years of experience.

Attendees of the YMHFA class are required to complete a 2-hour self-paced online training 48 hours prior to the virtual workshop.
