Distracted driver may have caused fatal collision Saturday

A 20-year-old Medina man, reportedly seen by a witness holding a phone to his ear moments before a fatality crash Saturday, will be charged with vehicular homicide.

A 20-year-old Medina man, reportedly seen by a witness holding a phone to his ear moments before a fatality crash Saturday, will be charged with vehicular homicide.

According to Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, when the Medina man, driving a Toyota Highlander eastbound in Interstate 90, drove off the road and hit a Honda Civic that had stopped on the left shoulder. A 30-year-old man was sitting in the car during the crash; he died at Harborview Medical Center. A 29-year old woman standing outside of the car was critically injured.

The driver suffered no injury and was arrested for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault under driving with disregard for the safety of others.
