King County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert today announced a tentative date for council members to review the proposed annexation of Snoqualmie’s mill site. The Transportation, Economy, and Environment (TREE) committee will discuss the legislation that could authorize Snoqualmie to annex the property on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1:30 p.m. in King County Council Chambers.

Lambert emphasized that the date was tentative, and a final agenda would not be published until a few days before the meeting.

The proposed annexation of the former Weyerhauser mill site near Snoqualmie Falls has been an ongoing controversy in the city for the past year, where residents have concerns about the environmental issues at the city, and the city’s financial liability.

Non-city residents have vocally opposed the annexation. They argue that the current use of the property, a rally-car driving school, is destroying their property values and creating noise pollution. The property is owned by Snoqualmie Mill Ventures, which operates the DirtFish driving school.

Snoqualmie City Councilmen voted last October to approve the pre-annexation agreement on the property’s zoning, and they are expected to review and vote soon on an interlocal agreement with the county regarding the annexation. The final vote on the annexation is still several months, and multiple public hearings, away.
