Shop class will no longer be on offer at Snoqualmie Middle School, and Spanish will be cut at Chief Kanim starting this fall.

Those two schools, as well as the new Twin Falls Middle School, will offer exploratory courses in music, art and technology.

The decision to standardize exploratory curriculum was based on staffing allocations and the district’s desire to provide equal learning opportunities at the middle school level, said Don McConkey, assistant superintendent of the Snoqualmie Valley School District.

Staff members have shifted around with the addition of the Valley’s third middle school.

As enrollment and staffing grow at each of the schools, they will be able to add more exploratory programs, McConkey said.
