City of Snoqualmie looks to fill several interim positions

The City of Snoqualmie is beginning a search to fill its open city administrator position.

The city administrator is responsible for the administration of the city, working alongside the mayor to plan, organize and direct multiple functions of government. The city administrator also manages the 124-member city staff.

The position has been filled on an interim basis by Mark Correira, the city’s fire chief, since March 2021. Correira took over the position from Rick Rudometkin, who resigned a little over a year after first taking the role on an interim basis in Jan. 2020. Rudometkin only served the city as its permanent administrator since June 2020.

Since Correira’s appointment to city administrator, Michael Bailey has been serving as the city’s interim fire chief.

The city currently has several positions filled on an interim basis, including the public works and park director; city clerk/community liaison; parks, streets and maintenance operations manager; and the capital improvement manager.

“The interim positions have not caused any challenges for the community, but they have forced us to triage and focus on the importance of items,” Gail Folkins, a spokesperson for the city, said over email. “All staff have stepped up to the plate, taken on additional workload and responsibilities, and continue to focus on the highest priority items needed to be accomplished.”

The city has plans to fill all openings, except the capital improvement manager, by this fall. At its last meeting, the city council set plans to work with Government Resources Inc., a government employee recruitment agency, to begin the search for a new public works and parks director.

The public works director has been filled on an interim basis by Steve Clark since May 25. Clark took over for Brian Krause, who was appointed to the position in 2020, after serving the city in an interim role for two years.

The city will have the first interviews for its city clerk position next week. The position was filled on an interim basis after Jodi Warren retired this summer following 25 years with the city. The city also plans to fill its parks, streets and operations manager opening by mid-October.

The search for a capital improvement project manager will begin after an outside firm evaluates staffing needs in the public works department.
