A Carnation man was arrested for second-degree murder and is now being held on a $2 million bail following a midday domestic violence call, where the suspect can allegedly be heard shooting the deceased.
According to probable cause documents from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, on May 9, a Carnation man, 42, fatally shot his girlfriend. According to documents, the suspect accused his girlfriend, Kelly Kilburg, 46, of actually being his ex-girlfriend, Danielle, whom he thought was posing to be Kilburg through plastic surgery.
Documents state that the suspect was believed to be under the influence of an unknown drug or substance, and a crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were recovered from his home.
The Valley Record is not naming the suspect because he has not been formally charged. According to KCPAO spokesperson Casey McNerthney, the suspect is still not formally charged, but they anticipate receiving a case referral from the King County Sheriff’s Office investigators by the afternoon of May 14 for a charging decision. According to the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention’s jail lookup portal, the suspect is currently held on a $2 million bail at the King County Correctional Facility on a homicide investigation.
Details of the incident
According to documents, at about 2 p.m. May 9, the KCSO received a call for a domestic violence in progress in the 3000 block of Lake Langlois Road Northeast in Carnation. Documents state that the suspect called 911 to report that he and his ex-girlfriend, Danielle, were in a verbal argument.
According to documents, the suspect could be heard on the 911 call stating that he had Danielle at gunpoint. Documents state that the suspect said that there were multiple people at the scene, and that one of them was someone named Aaron, who was holding onto Kilburg.
According to documents, Kilburg can be heard telling the suspect that she is not Danielle. Documents state that Kilburg tells the suspect that she is who she says she is, and to ask her any question.
Documents state that the suspect then asked her a question, but after Kilburg did not respond, gunshots and screaming were heard. Documents state that only the suspect and his current girlfriend were found at the scene.
Documents state that the 911 call receiver tried numerous times to get the suspect to put his gun down. Documents state that when the call receiver asked the suspect if anyone was hurt, he told her to come and find out, and called them an expletive.
Documents state that at about 2:15 p.m., officers responded to the scene, and the suspect walked down his driveway holding a rifle by one end, in a non-threatening manner, and set the rifle on the ground. Documents state that officers found Kilburg lying on the ground, bleeding from her abdomen and left arm.
Documents state that based on the investigation, detectives believed that the suspect was likely under the influence of an unknown narcotic and shot his girlfriend when he misidentified her as his ex-girlfriend. Documents state that Kilburg was transported to Harborview Medical Center, but at about 3:40 p.m., she died due to her injuries.
