Camp Korey announced July 26 the purchase of a 200-acre property in Mt. Vernon, which will enable the camp to increase the number of campers served and medical conditions supported each year.

The new location includes 23 buildings with lodges, a garden, ball fields, and a dining hall. Currently, the organization’s leadership is evaluating the improvements needed for the property, developing a master plan for identifying capital improvements and securing local office space for additional operations.

Camp Korey will move from its current location on Carnation Farm at the end of September.

“This is an exciting time for Camp Korey as we will have a camp with the potential of serving more campers than ever before,” said Interim Executive Director Gary Pollock. “We have the opportunity to take all we have learned over the last 11 years and create a safe haven for children and families; a place Camp Korey owns and can call home.”

The board of directors is working on a transition plan for the three pillar programs of residential summer camp, family camp weekends, and Camp to You outreach, as well as the dedicated volunteer program and donor program.

Camp Korey offers children and families an escape from the endless medical treatments that have overshadowed childhood adventures. Camp Korey became a full member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network in 2012. To learn more, visit campkorey.org.
