A look at Valley schools and scholars.

Valley cadets honored

Each year, the two ROTC programs at Central Washington

University recognize outstanding members of their cadet corps. Two Valley

residents were honored recently at an awards ceremony.

ROTC Cadet Erin Mallet, of Fall City, received the General Society

of the War of 1812 award and ROTC Cadet Jennifer Hearing, of

North Bend, received the Retired Officers Association, North Central

Washington Chapter award. Mallet is a sophomore majoring in business

administration and Hearing is a junior studying geography.

Youth to discuss substance abuse prevention

Students from the Riverview and Snoqualmie Valley school

districts will meet at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 5, to discuss their yearlong

activities that helped prevent substance abuse in their schools.

The middle school and high school students have provided leadership

to the Upper and Lower Valley youth councils, held substance-free

events and sponsored other activities to increase awareness among their peers.

The public is invited to attend the meeting at Tolt Middle School in

Carnation. For more information, call Ellen Kropp at (425) 333-6614.
