CWU announces honor roll

Five Valley residents have qualified for Central

Washington University’s winter quarter honor roll.

Central Washington University undergraduate students who earn a

3.5 or better GPA while carrying at least 12 graded credit hours of study

are eligible for the honor.

The honor roll students include: Jacob Layman of Carnation;

Mya Janikowski of Fall City; and Kristen Davis, Gregory Willett and

Andrea Oestreich of Duvall.

Valley Dawgs top the dean’s list

Students from the Snoqualmie Valley have been named to the

dean’s list at the University of Washington for Winter Quarter 2000. To qualify

for the list, a student must have completed at least 12 graded credits and have

a GPA of at least 3.50 (out of 4). Students are notified that they

have achieved this distinction when they receive their grades for the quarter.

This quarter’s honorees include: senior Nicholas Gregory Blue,

senior Erica Sacha Fisette, freshman Daniel A. Frost, senior Toni Marie

Hartje, junior Douglas Arthur Plass, senior Katrina Rheannon Rotter,

senior Anders Petter Sjavik, and sophomore Benjamin David Steenbock

of Carnation; junior Jeunai Marie Hampton, sophomore Adam D. Hobart,

junior Jeffrey John Mahan, junior Kevin McCullough, senior Hari Shroff,

and sophomore Christopher Mark Schirado of North

Bend; and sophomore Corey Christian Furulie,

freshman Bridgette Mary Quinn, sophomore Sara M. Shedd, and

senior Nancy Patricia Wiederhold of

Snoqualmie.

Derus named to national academic team

Bellevue Community College (BCC) student Jason Derus of

North Bend was named to the second team of the All-USA Academic

Team. Derus is the first BCC student to receive this honor.

The All-USA academic program recognizes 60 two-year college

students in the nation for outstanding academic and community

service achievements.

Derus is an exemplary student dedicated to school and

community service work. He maintains a 4.0 GPA and volunteers with BCC’s

Disability Support Services through the peer tutoring and new student mentoring

programs. He also serves as the vice president for the Phi Theta Kappa

Honor Society.

After working in a variety of jobs after high school, Derus carved out

his academic goals and enrolled at BCC to pursue a transfer degree. He

plans to study computer science and architecture at the University of

Washington.
