The body found in the Snoqualmie River on June 7 has been identified as 67-year-old Randy Burkel of Lake Tapps.
Snoqualmie Police responded to a call midday June 7 where witnesses said they saw a body floating in the Snoqualmie River near Riverview Park. After patrol officers responded, the Snoqualmie Police Department (SPD) requested the assistance of King County Search and Rescue and the King County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team. The body was located, recovered and identified as a deceased male.
Last month, the Pierce County Sheriff’’s Office was searching for Burkel after he went missing and his car was found abandoned in Snoqualmie. Burkel had dementia and was last seen May 13.
According to a report from the King County Medical Examiner, it is presumed that the cause of Burkel’s death was drowning, but no other details have been released.
SPD requests that anyone with information regarding the incident call 425-888-3333.
This is a developing story.
