Anderson endorses Widener for senate

Washington State Representative Glenn Anderson (R-Fall City) endorsed the U.S. Senate campaign of Eastside businessman and Mount Si High School alumnus Chris Widener last week, calling him the best Republican candidate to take on Sen. Patty Murray.

“I think the Republican Party needs a new kind of candidate, someone who can articulate conservative principles in a way that connects with families,” said Anderson. “Chris’s message of fiscal prudence and lower debt is resonating throughout the state right now.”

“Glenn’s endorsement means a lot to me,” said Widener, 43. “He’s demonstrated true leadership in Olympia, particularly on education and other issues important to his constituents. I’m proud to be one of them.”

“We can’t afford to keep doing things the same old way in Washington, D.C., but Congress won’t change until voters send a message with their ballots,” continued Anderson. “I know Chris is an effective messenger and will bring a business-like approach to the U.S. Senate.”

Chris Widener’s campaign calls for a more fiscally-responsible federal government, lower taxes, significant reduction in the national debt and a market-based approach to health care reform.

“Patty Murray’s support of trillion-dollar deficits and higher and higher debt levels are debilitating our nation’s leadership capacity, and the greatest pain is yet to come,” Widener said. “We need to make a change so future generations aren’t crushed under mountains of debt from an undisciplined Congress.”

Anderson is the ranking minority member of the House Higher Education Committee, and serves on the Capital Budget and Education Appropriations committees.
