Ames Lake-Carnation Road bridge open to travelers after 10-month closure

King County completely replaced the bridge, which was 100 years old.

The trestle bridge on Ames Lake-Carnation Road NE is open to traffic for the first time since June 2024.

King County replaced the 100-year-old trestle bridge northwest of Carnation with a wider, straighter structure that now has no weight restrictions. The project was necessary for modern life, though inconvenient for those who use the road to get in and out of the Snoqualmie Valley each day.

The bridge carries the road across Ames Creek, and the new structure will have less environmental impact on the creek and surrounding wetlands, according to the King County project website.

Construction costs for the project ended up about $3 million below budget, at an estimated $7.6 million, according to the website.
