When licensed acupuncturist Melony Cable first started her work specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics, she was operating out of a single room.
Moving to an integrated clinic and working alongside massage, chiropractic, physiotherapy and naturopathic practitioners, she continued developing her skills for the next two years before venturing out on her own again to launch Level Up Acupuncture & Wellness Center.
“I still work with them and with others in their fields,” Cable says. “I definitely try to incorporate and integrate these other modalities when it’s necessary for my clients.”
With training in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Bastyr University, Cable chose to specialize in sports medicine and pain (injury, overuse and chronic). She works with local athletes of all abilities and ages – she’s in her seventh season as the acupuncturist of the Seattle Storm – to heal injuries, improve performance and promote post-workout recovery.
“Melony is a miracle worker!” says local athlete M. Law. “I was referred to her by an orthopedic doctor for tennis elbow and a small tear in my rotator cuff. I had never tried acupuncture and wasn’t convinced it would help but I was desperate for relief. After a brief assessment, Melony came up with a treatment plan and soon I was 100 percent pain-free. I was back to full strength at crossfit and at home. I highly recommend Melony to anyone dealing with pain or chronic injuries.”
Cable takes a customized approach for each patient, with treatments that are personalized to their own needs and circumstances. Services also include leading-edge medical acupuncture for peripheral neuropathy, complex chronic conditions, fibromyalgia, and stress and anxiety.
“I treat psycho-emotional issues as well, because stress and anxiety can often lead to pain,” she says. “The acupuncture modality in itself can also treat internal conditions like Crohn’s disease and fibromyalgia.
“One of my patients is a diabetic who had no feeling in her hands and feet for 15 years; she’s not cured but she’s definitely moving about much easier than she was before.”
“Mel is a standout in her profession,” says another satisfied patient M. O’Brien. “Mel is intuitive and knowledgeable in her treatments. She is quick to let you know if she can help, and when she can, it is like magic! Many times I’ve gone to her with pulls and strains, or muscles that were not doing their share of the work. With a few treatments, Mel was able to relieve the pain, speed up healing, or “turn on” a muscle to improve my sports performance. In the years I’ve worked with her she has yet to disappoint.”
Cable believes that every body has the ability to heal, and she envisions a world where people are healthy, pain-free, and performing their best, whether as a professional athlete or simply enjoying life with their family. She’s made it her mission to create an environment where people feel seen, heard, cared for, and hopeful in their pursuit of health.
“Many people come to me after trying everything else – I’m often the last port of call with the best results!”
