Locally-grown zucchinis took over the Mount Si Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 4 for the first annual Zucchini Grande Contest sponsored by the Snoqualmie Valley Master Gardeners.

Ten local gardeners entered their giant zucchinis in the contest judged by Nels Melgaard, from The Nursery at Mount Si, and by Bert Mann, of the Mount Si Senior Center. The judges awarded the Biggest Zucchini to a whopping 10-pound entry. The judges also awarded the Most Unusual Zucchini to a yellow and green curved entry. First prizes were gift certificates to the Nursery at Mount Si.

Your friendly neighborhood Master Gardeners will be sponsoring another Zucchini Grande Contest next year in September.
