Walk like an Egyptian at TFMS second annual Egyptian Museum Walk

Twin Falls Middle School travels back five millenia in the school’s second annual Egyptian Museum Walk, hosted by the sixth grade on Friday, Feb. 12.

From 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., museum-goers will walk into the Twin Falls commons area, now transformed into an Egyptian tomb by 300 feet of wall art created by sixth graders in Jim Ullman’s art class.

“I wanted to do art that blended with their curriculum,” Ullman said.

Students have been learning about the ancient Egyptian culture in their social studies classes. Sixth grade students will be presenting research on the culture and artifacts they’ve created at home.

Artifacts will include scale models of temples, death masks, mummies, jewelry, tools, weapons, cats, and pyramids showing interior chambers and tunnels.

“The students have also learned research skills, questioning, note taking, correct use of resources such as Web sites and encyclopedias and reading information, and have developed expository and descriptive paragraphs on the personality and artifacts of ancient Egypt” said Judy West, a sixth and seventh grade language arts and math teacher at Twin Falls.

All are welcome to immerse themselves in ancient Egypt at Twin Falls, but the works will only be up for a short time. Visiting parents will be taking the art home with them at the end of the event.
