The Snoqualmie Valley Girls’ Choir hosts a picnic meet-and-greet, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at E.J. Roberts Park in North Bend.

Julie Parsons, the new choir director, will be introduced to the community at the free event. Girls in grades 4 to 12, who are interested in singing with the choir for the 2014-15 season, are encouraged to attend with their families.

The Snoqualmie Valley Girls’ Choir was founded in 2004, with a focus on a high quality of musicianship, developing relationships, and service to the

Snoqualmie Valley community. In addition to two formal concerts each year, the choir performs for holiday tree lightings, on Snoqualmie’s Santa Train, and the Argosy Christmas Ship. Choir members are invited to be part of planning each concert.

Parsons has more than 20 years’ experience conducting choirs. She studied at Central College (IA), New England Conservatory, and the University of Washington. She has sung with choirs all over the world including the London Philharmonic Choir and is a founding member of the Seattle-based Mägi Ensemble, a professional women’s choir specializing in music from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

The choir begins rehearsals on September 18 at Mount Si Lutheran Church. More information is available on the choir website, www.snoqualmievalleygirlschoir.org.
