Unlocking the secrets of long life; Valley Webmaster keeps daily exercise log

Fall City resident Ralph Teller knew at a young age that he wanted to live a long, healthy and active life.

He set out to unlock the real secrets of longevity and push the human body to its fullest potential.

“It’s been a focus of mine since college,” Teller said.

While at Fordham University, Teller set about studying a range of topics relating to health and wellness. He studied nutrition and Eastern philosophy and learned about different breathing techniques and ways to gain control over your metabolism.

Teller also embraced rigorous exercise and became a triathalete, with several Ironman triathlons under his belt.

For much of his life, Teller’s interest in longevity and healthy living remained a relatively personal pursuit. He married and had children, worked as a successful corporate attorney, and generally lived a good and happy life.

When the children had grown up and the law career had come to a close, Teller realized he needed a new challenge in life, some interesting new focus for his energies.

Having spent most of his life collecting information and ideas relating to health and longevity, and having greatly benefited from those pursuits, Teller wanted to share what he had learned with others. His Web site, www.1vigor.com, was born of that desire.

“It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a number of years,” Teller said.

After several months of planning and content development, 1vigor.com launched in July of last year. The site features information about exercise, nutrition, brainpower, physiology, science and more. There are articles by experts in many different fields and a list of recommended books.

“I’m trying to provide a great resource,” Teller said.

For Teller though, the highlight of the site is the interactive exercise log.

“It’s great to provide information, but I want to take it to another level and provide tools to help people,” he said.

With the exercise log, users can keep track of their daily, weekly and monthly exercise activities. Plug in information about distances hiked or swam, number of push-ups or sit-ups done, and the log will calculate weekly totals. Visitors can compare one month to the last, or this month to the same period last year and see if they have maintained a regimen, fallen off a bit, or improved their level of activity.

“It’s a tool to help people stick with it,” Teller said.

There are even leader boards so you can see how you compare to friends and other users.

Using the exercise log only requires a simple signup process and it’s free to anyone.

In the short time the site has been up and running, Teller has received a lot of positive feedback from young and old alike.

“A lot of young people are looking at how to have a better life,” he said.

For those who aren’t so young, the site provides a resource for those looking for a fresh start or new direction, like baby boomers who are now empty nesters.

“It’s almost like a second look at their life,” Teller said.

Teller hopes that visitors to 1vigor.com can benefit from his years of study and experience, and that they too might enjoy the long, healthy and active life that he has.

Together, members of 1vigor.com may inspire one another to new heights and achievements, and add to a knowledge base that could help generations to come.

“I want to build a community,” Teller said.
