Northwest Heritage Resources presents a concert of  Scottish traditional music, 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Carnation Tree Farm Barn, 31523 N.E. 40th St., in Carnation.  The concert will feature traditional Scottish fiddler Ryan McKasson, joined by Dave Bartley on guitar.

McKasson is a talented fiddler who, in 1996, was the youngest musician to win the National  Scottish Fiddle Championship.

In 2004 he and his sister Cali formed the band, The McKassons, and since 2002 he’s been the fiddler for two contra dance bands, The Syncopaths, and more recently, Contra Sutra.

McKasson has taught at numerous fiddle schools and camps, including the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp,  Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddling School and Washington state’s Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, and  has performed at concert halls and folk venues throughout the U.S.

McKasson has also recorded with well known  Scottish fiddlers Hanneke Cassel and Alasdair Fraser. Dave Bartley has performed traditional Celtic and  Balkan music and joined other World music ensembles, but is just as comfortable playing classical music  with the Seattle Symphony and Opera, as well as jazz, rock, swing, and cabaret music.

The show is in partnership with the Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce, Carnation Barn Concerts, and the Ethnic Heritage Council.

The July 12 concert is funded in part by Northwest Heritage Resources, ArtsWA, 4Culture and the  National Endowment for the Arts. Admission to the concert is a donation of $5. No advance ticket sales.
