‘Snoqualmie Valley 4’ climbers to appear on KING-5 show

A team of four area women, the "SnoValley4," recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Their story, remarkable not only because of the rugged seven-day journey, but also because each of the women was age 60 or older, will be featured on King 5's "New Day Northwest" on Monday, Jan. 3.

A team of four area women, the “SnoValley4,” recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Their story, remarkable not only because of the rugged seven-day journey, but also because each of the women was age 60 or older, will be featured on King 5’s “New Day Northwest” Jan. 3.

The team of Kathy Burman, Chris Pedee, Pat Person and Carol Dorney, reached the 19,298 peak, at 4 p.m. Oct. 9. It was the fulfillment of a six-year dream for Burman, who first started planning the trip after hearing about a friend’s climb up the same mountain.

To prepare for the trip, Burman started taking “Photography Made Easy” classes at Snoqualmie City Hall through the Si View Metro Parks program, and drew the instructor, SnapShot Sandy, into her planning for the trip, too. He offered advice for helping Burman keep her camera and batteries working in the cold of the climb, and reminded her how to light the all-important “summit moment.”

Burman was the group’s official photographer, taking more than 1,000 photos of the trip. When she returned, she enlisted Sandy’s help in creating a music video DVD of the best photos.
