Sign up now for police department’s women’s self-defense class in North Bend

The Snoqualmie Police Department is offering a nationally-recognized women’s self-defense course in March. Women age 16 or older, who live or work in North Bend or Snoqualmie, are eligible to take the class.

Classes run from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, March 22, 23, 29, and 30 at the Cascade Covenant Church, 13225 436th Ave. SE, North Bend. Cost is $30.

The course is taught using the Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D.), dedicated to teaching defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault. Participants learn to use easy, effective and proven self-defense tactics, in a hands-on class that includes information about crime prevention and risk reduction and avoidance.

Course leaders, officers Nigel Draveling and Kim Stonebraker, are certified instructors in women’s self-defense.

Participants must attend all four sessions, a total of 12.5 hours. Space is limited and sign-ups will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
