Past Time: “Twin Peaks” filming begins at Mar-T Cafe; Pipe bomb attempted murder

• Twin Peaks is the first new town to be established in the Snoqualmie Valley. But it looks like there’s a bit more depredation and intrigue going on there than we’re used to. Filming for “Northwest Passage,” a new murder mystery for ABC-TV, began February 21 at the Mar-T Cafe, and will include various locations in the Valley. The fictional town of Twin Peaks is a composite of Snoqualmie, North Bend, Fall City and Carnation. Dozens of locals will be immortalized as extras. The kids in Debbie Navarre’s high school drama class are all agog at the opportunity to act alongside Michael Ontkean, Kyle MacLachlin and Piper Laurie. Some business owners, however, aren’t happy with how the filming is being handled.

March 2, 1989

• Darrell Raymond Cherry, whose trial for the attempted murder of his ex-wife ended last week in a hung jury, will be tried again. Cherry is accused of trying to kill Fritzi Davis with a pipe bomb left in her car.

March 5, 1964

• Mount Si will do battle with Colville in the Class A State High School basketball tournament. Bob Reimer is the coach.

• Vandals smashed two large plate glass windows at the Valley Shoe Store in Snoqualmie Tuesday morning, removing part of the merchandise from the window display.

• The fate of town, school, library and school levies in North Bend, Snoqualmie, Carnation, Duvall and Snoqualmie Valley School District 407 will be sealed in an election March 10.

• North Bend firemen will check any home, garage or building when they begin their second annual inspection this week.
