Out of the Past: Rubber raft race; ‘Old 101’ rings again; Two Rivers serves both districts, graduates 9

This week's entries include: • The brass bell from Old ‘101’ rang again in Snoqualmie last Friday for the first time in many years. The bell that sounded on a hard-working logging train in the Valley 60 years ago was the object of a ceremony held at the Snoqualmie Depot May 27. The crowning ornament of the old locomotive was donated by Weyerhaeuser Co. to King County, which will send it to a special Bell Garden as part of the state’s upcoming centennial celebration.

Thursday, June 2, 1988

• Nine young people graduated from Two Rivers Alternative High School, a program serving the Snoqualmie Valley and Riverview School Districts. Things are moving at the alternative school, and enrollment has grown steadily since the program started in January of 1987.

Thursday, June 6, 1963

• A fire that started in the kitchen of the Mar-T Cafe in North Bend Sunday was quickly put out by volunteer firefighters. It started from grease, around 4:30 a.m.

• Rubber rafts will skim over the waters of South Fork on June 23. The race is being started by the Valley Jaycees, is open to any male age 18 and older, and is only for rubber vehicles without wood or metal supports.
