Nels Melgaard was named North Bend Citizen of the year in 2011. He is well known for his outstanding community service, including supporting the Mt Si Wildcats wrestling team, and in 2010, he spearheaded a group that re-chartered the Sallal Grange. “He is known as a man who does not seek out the spotlight for himself, and his actions exemplify a man of honor and integrity, a role model for youth and community action,” Mayor Ken Hearing said, adding that he “is a non-stop supporter of youth activities, local music, community service organizations, and helping people in need.”

Melgaard was the grand marshal at last year’s Festival at Mount Si. Hearing asked the rest of the Valley to help the Melgaards. “Anyone who can should support him.” There will be hot coffee and cold drinks available. More information can be found at www.sallalgrange.org, or by calling (425) 888-0825.
