New Carnation library to open

Carnation residents are getting ready to cut the ribbon on their new, 5,000-square-foot Carnation Library.

A community ribbon-slicing celebration is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the new library, built on the former site of the old one at 4804 Tolt Ave.

Community leaders, library staff, architects and builders are slated to join local families in celebrating the landmark occasion. An open house will follow the ribbon-cutting ceremony, as well as a children’s performance by Recess Monkey.

Construction of the new $2.98 million library is part of the $172 million capital bond, approved by voters to fund major upkeep and expansion of libraries in the King County Library System. The Carnation library was constructed together with four other libraries as a design-build project, which allowed for an expedited construction timeline and cost savings. Construction of the new library began in July 2008.

The new library will include a community meeting room, children’s and teen areas and more space for studying and reading. The new library will be open 10 a.m to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
