Grown-ups, kids needed for ‘Wind in the Willows’ parts at Valley Center Stage

Valley Center Stage will hold auditions for its upcoming production of "The Wind in the Willows," noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the theater, 119 North Bend Way. Callbacks will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, also at the theater. The production will be directed by Gary Schwartz, with musical direction by Michael Matlock. The book is by Paul Sills and Arnold Weinstein, music by William Bolcam and lyrics by Weinstein. Male and female characters are needed for the following roles: Mole, an adult, naive and just out of his hole; Rat, an adult, boatsman, poet and dreamer; Toad, an adult, conceited, conniving and an incorrigible braggart; Badger, an adult, gruff, no-nonsense and letter-of-the-law; and Wayfaring Rat, an adult, lyrical old salt, who's been around the world and seen a thing or two.

Chorus roles are also available for four to six adults to play Pan, Horse, Moon, Ferrets, Car Owners, Judge, Jailer, Jailer’s Daughter, Washerwoman, Guards, Train Engineer, Travelers, Clerk, Owl and Fox. Children age 8 and older and adults can addition for chorus roles as Weasels, Rabbits, Birds and Mice.

Rehearsal begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, with rehearsals Monday through Thursday, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The show opens Thursday, April 27, running through Thursday, May 11.
