Gary Remlinger chosen as Carnation Fourth of July parade grand marshal

Remlinger is the “perfect man for the job,” according to his 64 nominations.

Carnation’s 2025 Fourth of July parade will be led by Gary Remlinger, longtime Carnation resident and founder of Remlinger Farms.

As Remlinger Farms celebrates 60 years this year, Remlinger himself is celebrating 80 years on July 28. His time in Carnation has made a great impact on the community, according to the 64 nominations he received for grand marshal.

“This year is a milestone for both my father and the farm,” Remlinger’s daughter, Debrah Sherfey, said in her nomination. “There is no better time to recognize his dedication to this town and its people. He has poured his heart into Carnation for decades, and this honor would be a well-deserved tribute to his life’s work.”

Remlinger was born and raised in Carnation, and his parents and grandparents also lived in the small town.

Remlinger and his wife, Bonnie, opened their roadside produce stand in 1965. Today, their farm is a Snoqualmie Valley icon, bringing in guests from near and far.

“When you tell someone, ‘I live in Carnation,’ their response is often tied to a fond memory of Remlinger Farms,” Sherfey said in her nomination. “Whether it’s picking berries, riding the train or enjoying a fresh-baked pie, my father’s work has helped shape the town’s reputation as a welcoming, family-friendly destination.”

Many nominations also mentioned the ways Remlinger has given back to his community throughout the years.

“Through my father’s hard work, he has not only built a thriving business but has also given back to the town in countless ways,” Sherfey said in her nomination, “supporting local organizations, giving his land for the construction of Carnation’s Fire Station and working with the town council to sell his land for additional housing, all to ensure that Carnation remains a place of warmth and opportunity.”

As many of Remlinger’s family members and friends wax lyrical about him, his response remains humble, according to Sherfey.

“Gary’s reaction has been one of gratitude and thankfulness,” Sherfey said. “He was very surprised and he feels very honored to have been chosen as grand marshal.”
