Maybe there’s no improving a classic, but that doesn’t stop the hundreds of car enthusiasts from putting hours of sweat and tons of pride into their vehicles.

Classic car buffs brought 209 of the shiny, candy-colored vehicles to the Legends Car Club show, held Sunday, Aug. 2, in Snoqualmie.

Two downtown blocks were closed off for the show, which gave out trophies in dozens of categories. Engines roared as the winners were announced Sunday afternoon.

Anne Carr of North Bend picked up Best in Class for the foreign car category for her lovingly restored 1960 Volkswagen Beetle.

For her, the blue bug brings back summer memories of youth.

“My first car was a ’68 [Beetle], which was my mom’s first car,” she said. “That was the car I learned to drive in, the car I drove in high school. My brother and I used the play in the car, all summer long.”

She put antique luggage on the roof rack, and a retro Dr. Pepper soda sticker on the dash.

“I think it adds to the character of the car,” she said.

Dan Toigo of Snoqualmie drew looks with his blue Supercomp-class dragster. Plenty of passersby had questions about the racer, which weighs 1,700 pounds, burns 114-octane fuel and can go 180 miles per hour.

For Toigo, his races are “a sportsman thing.” He competes at races from Idaho to Canada.

Legends Car Club show organizer Ray Sneesby said the car show is planned to coincide with Snoqualmie’s Railroad Days next year.
