Initiative 1098 is win for all

I may have misunderstood the intent of the political cartoon in the September 22 issue, but it seems to portray the wealthy as scared little chickens trembling at the mercy of the potential passage of I-1098.

I understand that fear is a powerful and effective tool of a particular political party that tries to scare unwitting voters into voting for candidates and measures that are completely against the values and interests of those same voters.

I-1098 will impact only the very wealthy, those individuals exceeding $200,000 in income and $400,000 for couples. The collected tax will help fund education, surely a concern in our area.

There are also claims that I-1098 would hurt the economy and cause a loss of jobs. It seems more logical that I-1098 would do entirely the opposite, by providing an incentive to employers to hire more employees to keep their own net income down to a level below the proposed tax rate. Just imagine all the people who could be hired by an employer who needed to reduce his net income by, say, $5 million a year to avoid the tax rate. Even if he hired at a modest income of $50,000 a year, he could hire 100 happy employees, and instill magnanimity and justice in his own heart. What more could anyone possibly want?

Passage of I-1098 is a win/win situation for all of us.
