Tesoro ownership changes hands

NORTH BEND – Bryan’s One Stop in North Bend isn’t so much about Bryan anymore.

Bryan Brown sold his convenience store and Tesoro gas station at 302 W. North Bend Way to Chan and Helen Ho. The Woodinville couple with more than 15 years of convenience store experience are excited to keep Bryan’s flowing with tasty beverages and content Valley customers who have frequented the One Stop for years.

Brown lives in Bellevue but grew to be an important part of the community over the four years he owned Bryan’s. He is leaving Western Washington to join his father in a job located in Spokane. His family will be moving to the Coeur d’Alene area.

“I have mixed emotions … excited to be around my side of the family and to be working with my father, but having built so many relationships in North Bend there are a lot of people I’ll miss,” Brown said.

Helen said she wanted to buy the One Stop because she loves the beauty of the area. She and Chan don’t want to change anything about Bryan’s – including the name.

“We will keep it pretty much the same. We need everyone to keep supporting Bryan’s and we plan to be involved in the community,” she said.

All services and merchandise – including Bryan’s Cafe Lusso coffee and wide selection of micro-brew beers – will remain the same.

“There was a lot of interest in the place, even before it was for sale,” Brown said. “Chan and Helen were handpicked because of their experience in convenience stores and gas. They are very honest and good people.” Brown added that the Hos also want to continue the relationships he has developed with local businesses.

The Hos have stores in Shoreline and Northgate. Helen said she likes her line of work because of the people she meets.

“I can meet all kinds of people. I really enjoy working here,” said Helen, who is already learning the ropes at Bryan’s, despite the fact that she is new to the world of micro-brews. “I’ll have to study up,” she said.

Brown is working closely with the Hos through the transition. “Bryan’s depth of involvement within the community will continue,” Chan said.

Besides their beers, coffee and candy deals, Bryan’s also has an extensive Mexican grocery store section and will continue to serve as a pay station for Puget Sound Energy, AT&T, AT&T Wireless and Comcast.

The Hos have two sons, James, a University of Washington student, and Joseph, a junior at a Christian high school. The Hos enjoy golfing, pingpong and biking when not working hard at the store.

“I see a very bright future in this business,” Helen said. “We do the best.”
