Salish Lodge named top resort hotel in the West

The Salish Lodge and Spa in Snoqualmie, perched atop one of Washington state’s most visited scenic attractions, was named the “No. 1 Resort Hotel in the West” in the Travel + Leisure 2024 World’s Best Awards.

“We’re absolutely honored to be recognized by Travel + Leisure readers,” General Manager Alan Stephens said in a press release. “This is a huge honor, coming from some of the most seasoned travelers in the world.”

More than 186,000 Travel + Leisure readers voted in this year’s awards, sharing their experiences and opinions on vacation destinations. Hotels spanning the western portion of the U.S. were categorized based on the type of facility — resort hotel, city hotel, inn or safari lodge — and rated based on specific criteria, from the food offered to the rooms themselves.

“Everything about the stay [at Salish Lodge] was wonderful from the moment you walk onto the property to when they open the doors for you; it was a mesmerizing time,” wrote one T+L reader in a review of the lodge. “I have recommended this place to everyone I know. The people who work there are amazing and everyone is so kind and polite.”

The Salish Lodge received the highest reader score of 94.12 this year, outranking its placement in previous years — 4th in 2023 and 13th in 2022.

Travel + Leisure noted the lodge’s feather bedding and in-room gas fireplaces, award-winning restaurant and spa and “second-to-none” setting in a summary of this year’s winner.

“The coveted distinction of being the best resort in the West underscores Salish Lodge & Spa’s century-long reputation of setting the standard of excellence for hospitality and offering unparalleled travel, dining, and spa experiences in this region,” the press release reads.

Opened in 1916, the Salish Lodge — now owned by the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and operated by Columbia Hospitality — has grown from an eight-room inn to an 86-room resort hotel and luxury destination, featuring a full-service spa, a lobby lounge, and a locally inspired restaurant, according to the press release.

“Salish Lodge & Spa continues to be a beacon of excellence in the hospitality industry, with a team that works extremely hard to provide comfort, quality service and unmatched guest experiences,” Stephens said. “It is incredible to be recognized for these efforts and for guests to recognize Salish Lodge & Spa in this way.”

In the coming months, the lodge will open three additional suites, reimagine its restaurant and continue to enhance onsite amenities, according to the press release.
