Re-in-Carnation: Senior center to open thrift store

The Sno-Valley Senior Center plans to open a thrift store this fall.

The Sno-Valley Senior Center plans to open a thrift store this fall.

The center is opening the store, called Re-In-Carnation, in an effort to be more self-sufficient in a sluggish economy and make it through upcoming budget cuts. The store will also serve the local lower-income community, as there is no thrift store in the Lower Valley.

The store, located in a former home at 31845 W. Commercial St. in Carnation, is a hub of activity. Volunteers are refurbishing and setting up the store with help from Microsoft, Duvall Rotarians, school groups and members of the community volunteers.

Rotary Club of Duvall is providing a matching challenge gift of $5,000 to encourage residents to donate toward the effort of getting the store up and running. It will cost about $50,000 for repairs necessary to convert the building to a commercial operation.

Donations are accepted 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Planned store hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Call the center at (425) 333-4152.
