As a second phase of downtown Snoqualmie improvements starts kicking up dust, downtown merchants have rallied together to ensure tourists know they are still open for business.
They started a “Sip, Shop & Savor Summer in Downtown Snoqualmie” campaign to showcase the business district between now and early September.
Teri Clark is the new owner and manager at Snoqualmie Valley Weight Loss Center.
A past client and employee, Clark has kept the same location, at 213 Bendigo Blvd. N., North Bend, adding hours and inventory.
An open house is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21. Visitors are welcome to sample products and meet the new owner.
Birches Habitat owner Nancy Wray has opened a new business, Arty Party Place, adjacent to her retail shop.
Arty Party Place offers a space for art group classes, private parties and gatherings.
“We provide your canvas, supplies and paint and easy to follow lessons,” Wray told the Record. “All we need is you, your enthusiasm and some wine for a really fun night out with your gal pals, neighbors and friends.”
The King County Department of Assessments will host a community presentation, 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Mount Si Senior Center, to discuss valuations, taxes and property tax deferral/exemption programs for qualified low-income senior and disabled residents.
The North Bend office of The Cascade Team welcomed its newest real estate broker, Heidi Root. Root was raised on the Eastside and has a background in appraisal and real estate. She enjoys working with people and looks forward to assisting buyers and sellers.

North Bend’s The Swirl frozen yogurt shop is excited to announce the celebration of its one-year anniversary.
Last June, The Swirl opened in the Mount Si Si Village Shopping Center across from Ace Hardware and El Caporal. In the last year, the shop got involved in many of the community’s activities, including the North Bend Block Party, the Jazz Walk and Blues Walk, supporting the Mount Si High School sports teams and Snoqualmie Valley Little League, and fundraising activities for the area elementary schools.
The question wasn’t meant as a joke, but Sharon Nikko couldn’t stop laughing after being asked how her employees like working at the Snoqualmie Falls Candy Factory.
“I don’t know, we’ll have to ask!” she finally said, still chuckling, then she called out, “Hey, Barb! She’s asking me if my employees enjoy working here!”
Barb McClain an employee of 16 years, gave her employer an exasperated smile and said, “That’s a silly question!”
Throughout much of her career, Peggy McNamara has had the answers, or at least known where to find them. She has been a corporate director of education, a real estate agent and “kind of a clean-up girl” brought in to restructure struggling offices. She teaches online classes on real estate, and in the past year, she finished a major reorganization of the Acres of Diamonds women’s shelter in Duvall. In her newest volunteer role, though, McNamara has none of the answers, “but lots of questions,” she says.
It’s a new year for Snoqualmie Valley Women In Business, an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for collaboration, networking, personal growth and community leadership for local business women.
Now in its sixth year, Women in Business has adopted the theme of “Up Your Game” for the year, and continues to fine-tune its offerings to meet the needs of nearly 100 members, like the networking exercise that’s been added to each meeting, or the social event and accessory swap planned for June 17 at Glass & Bottle on Snoqualmie Ridge.
